Product Care Instructions
Thank you for purchasing handcrafted product(s) from Modern Grey Displays! Here’s a summary of the care instructions we recommend:
- Material and Finish: Your piece is made of raw, unsealed metal, and is CNC plasma cut. Each piece has its own unique patina and may vary in color due to the nature of the metal.
- Handling: Be cautious as there may be sharp edges due to the plasma cutting process.
- Maintenance and Rust Prevention:
- Sealing: To prevent rust and to achieve a uniform color appearance, it’s recommended to seal the metal. You can use a clear or tinted spray paint of your choice for this purpose.
- Preparation: Before sealing or painting, lightly buff the metal with sandpaper (in the same direction) to open the grain, which helps the sealant or paint adhere better. Wipe the piece with a paper towel or cloth to clean it. Paint!
- Rust Considerations: If left unsealed, the metal may rust over time, especially in humid or moist environments. Sealing the piece right away helps to protect its original finish and prevents rusting.
- Customization: If you prefer a specific color or a uniform look, using a metallic or tinted spray paint can help achieve this.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your metal piece from Modern Grey Displays not only retains its aesthetic appeal but also remains protected from rust and environmental effects. Enjoy beautifying your living space with our handcrafted products!
Like the Rust look?
For very fast rusting, we recommend the following:
1. Lightly sand the metal surface to open the grain.
2. Spray it with a mixture of 4 TBSP white vinegar, 1 1/2 tsp table salt, and 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide, and leave it in the sun to dry. Repeat as many times necessary to reach the desired look.
3. Consider sealing your piece with a clear coat of spray paint. If not, the patina will likely deepen over time.
Spray paint (we love Rust-Oleum™), powder coating, chalk painting, sanding, hammering, scraping, and buffing, always looks beautiful on your piece.
Let your inner creative mind be your guide!
